to finish up our roadtrip posts, we’re putting up a couple of photos from san francisco. it seems that we were more successful at taking lots of photos in between the cities. what can we say, we just don’t like the touristy stuff!
san francisco is a really amazing city by the way. those hills are like nothing we’ve ever seen elsewhere!

bonus picture of our car, after we drove on the salt flats (just outside salt lake city) on our way home.

April 12, 2010 - 4:44 pm - The theme to Full House plays in my head when I look at the first shot ;)
April 12, 2010 - 7:22 pm - this is how you are finishing you road trip posts?! no thanks for following and an especially big thanks to magali, our number one fan ?
April 13, 2010 - 8:47 am - OMG You guys went to the salt flats!!! How fast did you get up to?
April 13, 2010 - 9:40 am - maggie: we got you a present!! what more could you possibly want?!! :) jag: the flats were all muddy (off-season), so we actually almost got stuck. otherwise, would've gone pretty damn fast...

we were so sad to leave sunny, warm orange county, but alas, we had to be moving on so we headed up the coast for a two day drive on highway 1. we had a bit of everything during that time: rain, hail, sun, fog, even a bit of snow at some point, but no matter what, it was always breathtakingly beautiful.
we had the chance to drive through redwood national park in northern california which was pretty spectacular. the trees are all freaking huge!
we’ll do our best to post again, but our computer has died and gone to computer heaven (or something like that) so we’re forced to work on our friends’ computers when we are not in a motel room. we apologize for the inconvinience this seems to have caused some of you (i mean you, magi!).
April 2, 2010 - 9:15 pm - Wow, those look really amazing. It's so beautiful!
April 2, 2010 - 9:22 pm - you guys are so freaking lucky
April 2, 2010 - 10:20 pm - Oh my god, you weren't kidding when you said you had a bit of everything... those could all be different countries, for all I know! This is an especially beautiful post. And I don't know how you manage to take such stunning pictures of yourselves when neither of you is behind the camera! really breathtaking, all of it.
April 3, 2010 - 9:20 am - :D apology accepted.
April 3, 2010 - 9:38 am - GORGEOUS! Those landscapes and seascapes are so amazing. And those trees! Yowzers! Breathtaking shots, you guys!
April 3, 2010 - 9:39 am - Oh, and I am sorry to hear about your computer - but very happy to see more posts! :)
April 3, 2010 - 12:32 pm - Wow! The one with you both crouching in the field is gorgeous!
April 3, 2010 - 9:30 pm - Lovely images! So soothing to the soul :)
April 4, 2010 - 10:05 am - What a spectacular views you have captured! I am happy that you are HAPPY driving for a such a long time and wondering all over the States! Sorry, for your computer, and indeed I wander why you did not post for a quite relatively long period. Keep driving safely! Next stop is...? Chicago?
April 6, 2010 - 5:20 pm - oh wow. i just unconsciously took a deep breath thinking i would be taking in some of that fresh air. have a safe drive back!
April 8, 2010 - 6:03 am - Havent been here for a while, but these photos are great. Lovely series. Just going to work my way through the rest. Hope you are having a great time. Dave
April 8, 2010 - 7:19 pm - Just beautiful...
April 11, 2010 - 7:46 pm - Oh. my. gosh. These are breathtaking! Love every single one of them. I have to ask - tripod for the photos of yourselves?? If so, you have quite a way with them. Fabulous!
April 11, 2010 - 7:57 pm - ericha: yes, we use a tripod for the ones of us. sometimes we just put it on the ground, but for the ones in this post, it was in fact a tripod!
April 12, 2010 - 2:58 pm - I've loved looking through all your road trip photos - amazing! And congrats on your new etsy shop, will definitely have to make a purchase in the near future.
April 12, 2010 - 9:12 pm - Gorgeous. Love these photos. It looks like you two had an amazing time!
April 22, 2010 - 9:02 pm - Thanks for drawing attention to the beauty of my home state. I miss you Cali!

while we were in orange county, our friends/hosts, mj and mike, introduced us to our latest obsession: eichler homes. we totally fell in love with these mid-century modern houses, built in the 1950s by john eichler, and we spent much of our time driving around “house-hunting.” this caused a bit of a stir for our facebook friends who were concerned that we’d be moving there permanantly (and we are quite tempted!) but we’re happy just checking these out while we’re visiting. they were only built in california (except for 2 in new york state) and finding their neighborhoods has become a fun treasure hunt for us.
these will probably be some of the least attractive photos we’ve posted on our blog thus far, but nevertheless, we had to share some with you!
April 2, 2010 - 9:17 pm - sick houses, but would suck if you moved away so far!
April 11, 2010 - 7:43 pm - Wow! They kind of remind me of the ones from The Brady Bunch.
April 13, 2010 - 7:28 am - I'm obsessed with these homes too! Too bad you didn't ring the doorbell on these homes & took interior shots as well. : )

let me start this post by apologizing for the long absence. we have been relaxing in SoCal, hopping from one house to an other. we are so lucky to have great friends out here who have kindly let us stay with them for several days at a time. we spent last weekend with tavia + ruben in san diego, who we also did an engagement shoot with (photos will be up on our d+d blog tomorrow!). the change in travel pace has forced us into taking less photos, but we’re heading up the coast (highway 1) tomorrow so we promise to post photos from that trek as soon as we get to san fransisco. enjoy these in the meantime!
we went with ruben to walk his friend’s dog, who had the cutest underbite!

a few from balboa park:

the view of the pacific ocean from loma point, our furthest point from home:

we love being surrounded by palm trees…

March 28, 2010 - 8:51 pm - you guys are lucky. i'd love to lay in the sun between some palm trees right now
April 22, 2010 - 9:00 pm - Do you know the breed of ruben's friend’s dog? He's adorable!!!
April 22, 2010 - 9:51 pm - It was a Boxer, with a pretty cool underbite!

after a couple of days on the road to get back to new mexico, we drove right into the biggest snow storm we had seen in a while. it didn’t stop us from getting some photos of the landscapes, but we didn’t see as much of santa fe as we would’ve like to. if anyone is getting married in that area, we’d love to come back!
probably the scariest bridge in the usa.
at least we got to have some incredible mexican specialties.
we took this photo of us, in the middle of the desert, in between two pueblos (we were on a rocky dirt road for a good half hour)
March 16, 2010 - 11:13 am - i am guessing/hoping you didn't go on that bridge eh?
March 16, 2010 - 11:16 am - nope we did not! it was a private road and had a "no trespassing" sign on it. either way, i wouldn't have!
March 16, 2010 - 11:59 am - that is the scariest (supposedly passable) bridge. ahhhhh!
March 16, 2010 - 6:54 pm - Wonderful scenery! Your photos reminds me of Breugel painting. http://www.ibiblio.org/wm/paint/auth/bruegel/bird-trap.jpg The bridge was scary indeed, but you were lucky to catch it - some mystical view...
March 16, 2010 - 7:24 pm - i've definitely seen scarier bridges :) i need to take a cue and try out a longer lens for landscapes. so easy to default to 35mm or wider. beautiful, guys.
March 16, 2010 - 7:45 pm - I would like it if you guys switched up your pose for the pics of the two of you. like perhaps form an M with your bodies, you know, like for Magali. Yes, definitely a good idea.
March 17, 2010 - 2:34 pm - Awesome pix! Davina, is that a SuperGirl costume you're wearing underneath your regular clothes? =D
April 1, 2010 - 1:01 pm - Such pretty photos!

we’ve travelled back to new mexico, which is just as beautiful as we left it last week. on our way here, we hit route 66, drove through the grand canyon, climbed (in our car) up the rockies in colorado, and we are now in taos – a small town close to santa fe. here are some of our photos from all our last few stops.
the next few photos are from monument valley, on the border of arizona & utah:
little mountain town of silverton, which was recommended to us by photographer brett butterstein:
the incredible rio grande canyon:
bonus picture of what we’ve resorted to for our meals (only sometimes):
March 14, 2010 - 1:11 pm - wah, those are really beautiful mountains, amazing!
March 16, 2010 - 11:16 am - I am such a humongoid fangirl of you guys it's ridiculous. Still so bummed we didn't get to meet up in WWPI. Next year!!!! :)
March 16, 2010 - 6:42 pm - If Ansel Adams shot colour i think some of these photos would look like his. You're trip is making me green with envy... or maybe i'm gearing up for St-Patrick's Day.

after a few exhausting days in vegas for a photography conference, we got back on the road and were happy to leave the craziness of sin city. our first stop was the grand canyon (photos coming up), after which we drove around the 4 corners and ended up in durango, colorado where photographer brett butterstein and his wife mandy generously offered us to stay with them. it gave us a chance to scan some of the polaroids we have been taking along the way. our hosts have just prepared us some amazing crepes, so we’re going to get to those! we promise to start blogging more often in the next few days!

March 13, 2010 - 2:27 pm - the next road trip must come through the pacific northwest -- we'll take you sailing, hiking, the whole nine! :) safe travels, friends.
March 13, 2010 - 9:54 pm - It was great to see you guys in vegas!! It will be better to see you back in Montreal, safe and sound. Believe it or not I bought you guys a present today, your going to love it!! Talk soon. Find me a july wedding! xoxo m
March 17, 2010 - 4:52 pm - I love these! Also, Dav, sidenote: you are too hot with your red lips and anchor tattoo! I may have a crush on you.

our long drive to las vegas took us through arizona today, which was some of the best scenery we’ve encountered so far on our trip.
and just look at those clouds!
March 7, 2010 - 9:05 pm - Just Gorgeous!
March 8, 2010 - 11:56 am - I love looking at all your pictures soooo much! That picture of you in the new mexico post looks like it should be in a fashion magazine (the one where it looks like you are just walking towards the camera). love you and miss you!
March 13, 2010 - 12:49 pm - Unbelievable sky! Seems haven't seen cloudy sky for ages. Here it is always more or less the same, monochrome - blue, white or dark. No clouds. Excellent scenery! Love all pictures. Feel your happiness on a distance! Drive carefully, enjoy the west of your trip!

white sands was one of the places we were looking forward to the most on this trip and it didn’t disappoint! as a matter of fact, what we have seen of new mexico so far has blown our minds. we are taking a detour to las vegas to attend wppi (the biggest conference for photographers), but will drive back into n.m. to visit santa fe & taos. we can’t wait!
March 6, 2010 - 12:34 am - I'm loving these! Keep em coming! You're so living the dream. ~ari
March 6, 2010 - 12:55 am - i'm really glad you made it to my old home state. i grew up just an hour from white sands. if you have a chance, go to La Posta to eat in Old Mesilla (next to Las Cruces).
March 6, 2010 - 1:20 am - i just went and hugged bern. that's how much love and warmth i felt after seeing this post. your self portraits always hit a soft spot. heart yous.
